When converting JPG to PNG makes sense

JPG is a great everyday format for photos because it keeps file sizes fairly small. PNG is different: it uses lossless compression and is often easier to work with for graphics, screenshots, editing workflows and apps that specifically ask for a PNG file. If you simply need the same picture in PNG format, this converter handles the change without sending the image to a server.

One thing worth knowing before you convert: changing a JPG into PNG does not bring back detail that was already removed when the JPG was compressed. The new PNG can also be larger than the original JPG, and that is normal.

How to use the converter

  1. Choose a JPG or JPEG image, or drag it into the box above.
  2. Check the preview, dimensions and original file size.
  3. Select Convert to PNG, then download the finished PNG.

What changes after conversion?

The pixel dimensions stay the same unless another tool resizes the image. The main change is the file format and the way the image data is stored. PNG supports transparency, but an ordinary JPG has no transparent pixels to recover, so converting it will not automatically remove a background.

Your image stays on your device

The conversion is handled by your browser. The selected image is not uploaded to EivoTech and the plugin does not keep a server copy. That also means the speed of the conversion depends mostly on your device and the size of the image.

Supported files and practical limits

You can use JPG and JPEG images up to 25 MB and up to 30 megapixels. Those limits are there to reduce the chance of a large image exhausting browser memory, especially on phones and older computers.

Common questions

Will PNG make my JPG look sharper?

No. Converting avoids another round of JPG compression, but it cannot recreate detail that has already been lost.

Why is my PNG bigger than the JPG?

That is common. JPG is designed to shrink photographic images by discarding some information, while PNG stores image data losslessly.

Can I use this for screenshots?

Yes, as long as the screenshot is currently saved as JPG/JPEG and is within the file limits.

Do I need an app or account?

No. A modern browser with JavaScript enabled is enough.
