What image-to-Base64 actually does
Base64 turns the binary bytes of an image into text characters. When the result is wrapped in a data URL, it can be placed directly in HTML, CSS or test data without pointing to a separate image file.
Encode an image
- Choose a JPG, PNG or WebP image.
- Select Convert to Base64.
- Copy the generated data URL and use it where your project expects Base64 image data.
Base64 is convenient, not smaller
Encoding an image as Base64 usually makes the text representation roughly one third larger than the original binary file. It can still be useful for small icons, prototypes, API payloads and self-contained examples, but it is rarely the best way to embed large website photos.
Why this tool limits files to 10 MB
A Base64 result can be very long and has to live in browser memory and a text area. The lower limit keeps the page responsive and discourages a workflow that is inefficient for very large images.
Privacy
The browser reads and encodes the selected file locally. The image and generated Base64 text are not sent to EivoTech.
Common questions
Does Base64 change image quality?
No. This tool encodes the existing file bytes; it does not recompress the image.
What is a data URL?
It is a string that begins with something like data:image/png;base64, followed by the encoded image data.
Can I decode the result later?
Yes. Use the Base64 to Image tool to turn compatible Base64 image data back into a downloadable file.
